Official History of the Canadian Army in the Second World War

Between the years 1955 and 1960, the Minister of National Defence authorized the publishing of a three volume work that is the Official History of the Canadian Army in the Second World War.

The information in these books was created from official reports taken during the course of the war by the Historical Section of the General Staff. The books also benefit from the authors themselves having been assigned to the Historical Section during the war. Combined, these books encompass 2,206 pages of text, notes, tables, maps, charts, references, and indexes.

Unfortunately, the books have long since been out of print and when second-hand copies can be located, they are often extravagantly priced. In 2008, the Directorate of History and Heritage first made them available as free downloads in .pdf format. By facilitating access to these important works to entire public, the service and achievements of the Canadian Army will most assuredly be remembered in its full and proper context. The below book titles link directly to their corresponding files for reading, downloading, or printing.
